K. Ahmet Sevimli

K. Ahmet Sevimli is an Associate Professor at the Bursa Uludag University (BUU) Law Faculty with more than 15 years of experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Turkish and English.

He has been teaching undergraduate courses covering “Employment Law”, “Labour Law”, “Social Security Law”, “Law of Occupational Health and Safety” and “Law of Obligations”. His courses in postgraduate level are “Conclusion and Application of the Employment Contract”, “Termination of the Employment Contract”, “Protection of Employee’s Personal Data” and “Atypical Employment Contracts”.

Sevimli was born in Istanbul, 1972 and is a Bursa Anatolian High School (BAL) graduate.

He received his LLB (1995) from the İstanbul University Law Faculty. After completing his internship at the Bursa Bar Association and obtaining the Attorney’s License, he has returned to the academia as a research assistant of Labour law in the Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations at the BUU Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences in 1996.

Sevimli obtained his LLM in 1999, with his thesis titled "Sea Captain in Labour Law". He received his Ph.D. in Private Law from Istanbul University with his doctoral dissertation titled "The Limits of Interference with the Employee’s Privacy” in 2006. Both the thesis and the dissertation were published.

During his Ph.D. studies (2000-2006), Sevimli served as a research assistant in the department of Labour and Social Security Law at the Istanbul University Law Faculty.

As of September 2007, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor to the Department of Labour and Social Security Law at the BUU Law Faculty.

Sevimli served as the chair of his department (2010-2017) and the vice dean of the BUU Law School (2008-2017). 

He also served as an arbitrator on the Dispute Resolution Committee of Turkish Football Federation (2012 -2015) and as an Official Mediator for industrial disputes of the collective bargaining processes (2012-2020). 

In 2018, he received “The Award for the Most Successful Academician of the Private Law Department of the Law School” from the Rectorate of BUU for his studies in 2016.

Sevimli’s associate professorship monography titled "Part-Time Employment Contracts Regulated in the Labour Act No.4857" was published in October 2019. In 2020, he earned the right to use the title “Associate Professor in Labour and Social Security Law” and was appointed officially as tenure Associate Professor.

In addition to books, peer-reviewed articles and court decision analyses; Sevimli also has published translations from English to Turkish in the fields of Law, Industrial Relations and Sociology. 

Sevimli has given numerous invited talks and tutorials since 1997, and is a co-founder and member of the Executive Editorial Board of the journal “İş, Güç”, Turkey’s first and longest running, open access, peer-reviewed electronic industrial relations, human resources and labour law themed journal.
